Summertime, and the Cooking is Easy – with Sister Schubert’s Homemade Rolls
Memorial Day is just around the corner. Schools soon will let out, and summer picnic and barbecue season is almost here. It’s time to start thinking about casual entertaining and easy-to-prepare foods that transport well.
Summer cooking today is much easier than when I was a girl. We made almost everything from scratch, including yeast rolls and other breads, which required spending long hours in a hot kitchen.
I started Sister Schubert’s Homemade Rolls so that families could have a convenient way to enjoy the homemade taste and quality of fresh-baked yeast rolls at everyday meals and family gatherings.
I’m all for modern conveniences, but I’ll never compromise on quality. Sister Schubert’s Parker House Style Yeast Rolls and Dinner Yeast Rolls are made with the same fresh milk, eggs, butter and other quality ingredients that my grandmother used – with no preservatives, no artificial flavors and 0g trans fat.
When everyone is on the go, Sister Schubert’s rolls make a perfect base for bite-sized sandwiches like our Grape Chicken Salad, Barbecue Pulled Pork or Chicken Mini-Sliders and Panini Sandwiches. Use the recipes below for children’s summer lunches and snacks, or prepare them ahead of time to share at your social gathering.
I’m sure your family will enjoy the taste, ease and convenience of these recipes as much as mine does.
Until next time,

Sister Schubert Meets Fans in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky and Tennessee
I’ve met hundreds of interesting people over the past few weeks as I traveled through Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky and Tennessee for speaking engagements and signings of Sister’s Cinnamon Bread Pudding that uses Sister Schubert’s Cinnamon Rolls.
Throughout my travels, it’s been an amazing experience to talk with other women about how we can maintain strong families and serve wholesome meals while keeping up with today’s on-the-go lifestyles.
I created Sister Schubert’s Homemade Rolls because I wanted to provide a convenient way for families to enjoy the homemade taste and quality of yeast rolls at everyday meals. Because we make Sister Schubert’s rolls just the way my grandmother did, using premium flour, butter, fresh milk and eggs, the only difference is our rolls go from freezer to table in less than half an hour instead of taking a whole day to bake.
Once again, I want to express my deep appreciation for all our loyal customers.
Until next time,

Mother’s Day Greetings and Recipe from Sister Schubert’s Homemade Rolls
Happy Mothers Day to mothers and grandmothers everywhere!
For me, Mother’s Day is another opportunity to celebrate my mother, Charlotte Naiden Wood, who has been an inspiration all my life. Of course, I also enjoy the endearing ways my husband, five children and seven grandchildren show their love and appreciation on this special day.
One of the privileges of the day is that mothers can relax and let their families take care of meals and chores. Sweet rolls like our wonderful Sister Schubert’s Cinnamon Rolls, Sister Schubert’s Blueberry Rolls, or Sister Schubert’s Orange Rolls add a special touch to breakfast in bed or Mother’s Day brunch.
And Sister Schubert’s dinner rolls bring the homemade taste and goodness of fresh-baked rolls to the dinner table without mom having to lift a finger.
Since our rolls go from freezer to oven to table in a matter of minutes, even the smallest children can help in preparation – by taking them out of the wrapper or helping to arrange the cooked rolls on a serving plate (just make sure they’re cool enough to touch). And almost no clean-up is required!
If your children are a little older, they might want to cook something a little more complicated. One of the ways my daughters indulge me is by preparing one of our favorite family recipes, such as Sister’s Cinnamon Bread Pudding. I’ve shared the recipe below for you to enjoy as well.
Here’s wishing that you’ll be blessed with a relaxing Mother’s Day surrounded by everyone you love!
Until next time,

Sister’s Cinnamon Bread Pudding ~ Family Favorite
Serves 10 – 12
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook/Bake Time: 60 minutes
Ingredients
- 1 package Sister Schubert’s Cinnamon Rolls
- 8 egg yolks
- 2 eggs
- 1 quart heavy cream
- 1 cup sugar
- Pinch of salt
- 2 tablespoons butter, cut into small cubes
- 1 cup pecans, coarsely chopped
- ¼ cup golden raisins
- 1 tablespoon bourbon or 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Preparation
Butter a 9 x 13-inch baking dish.
Remove rolls from package, cut each roll into quarters and set aside.
In a large mixing bowl, whisk eggs with egg yolks until light and fluffy. Add cream, sugar and salt, whisking to combine thoroughly. Flavor custard with bourbon or vanilla extract.
Place rolls into prepared pan and pour custard over rolls.
Dot top of pudding with butter and sprinkle with pecans and raisins.
Cover tightly and refrigerate 8 hours or overnight.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Bake pudding (uncovered) approximately 55 to 60 minutes or until center is set and top is golden. Allow pudding to rest 5 minutes before serving.
Sister Says: For a more fragrant topping, soak raisins in a few tablespoons of bourbon until rehydrated and plump. The alcohol cooks out during baking, but if you prefer, just soak the raisins in a little vanilla water. This bread pudding bakes up beautifully; golden brown on top, soft and rich inside and brimming with sweet cinnamon flavor.
Sister Schubert Raises Funds for Museum Center at 5ive Points in Cleveland, Tennessee
In addition to my role as founder of Sister Schubert’s Homemade Rolls, one of my most rewarding activities is to help raise funds for worthy causes.
I just returned from Henderson, Kentucky, where I was a guest chef for an Ohio Valley Arts League, and on Monday, May 10, I arrive in Cleveland, Tennessee to raise funds for the Museum Center at 5ive Points. This facility preserves and interprets the history and culture of the Ocoee Region of Tennessee and houses a gallery showcasing the arts and crafts of the South at its Museum Store.
From two to four p.m., I’ll be selling and signing copies of my newest book, Cast Your Bread Upon the Waters. A portion of the proceeds from book sales will go to the Museum Center, with the remainder benefiting the Barnes Family Foundation.
Then, at 6:30 p.m., I’ll mingle with attendees at an intimate, Southern-barbecue-themed Preview Party. The cost to attend this event is $20 per person.
The next day, I’ll speak at the Museum Center’s seventh annual fundraising luncheon, which starts at 11:30 a.m. and costs $35 per person.
A live auction of unique items such as an antique amethyst necklace and a luncheon for 10 at a Victorian home will follow my talk.
If you’re in the area, please consider joining me in supporting the Museum Center at 5ive Points.
Until next time,

Homemade dinner rolls bring a touch of class to the everyday table
Did you know the word “lady” comes from the Old English for “loaf of bread” and “to knead dough?” Back in the Middle Ages, bread was the mainstay of the diet. As a result, the woman who supervised making bread for the household was held in high reverence.
When I learned this, it brought to mind the important role of bread in our everyday meals while I was growing up. My mother and grandmother served some variety of fresh bread – ranging from cornbread to spoon bread to sourdough to yeast rolls – as a complement to nearly every meal. The aroma of baking bread lured us to the table as dinner was served.
In our busy modern world, few have time to bake yeast bread from scratch. Yet because Sister Schubert’s rolls go from freezer to table in a matter of minutes, you can enjoy the homemade taste of fresh-baked rolls at any meal.
We recently introduced two new products that allow singles, light users, small families and empty nesters to enjoy the homemade taste of Sister Schubert’s rolls while preparing just enough to serve at a single meal.
Each package of Sister Schubert’s Parker House Style Mini Pans includes two, 8-count pans of our signature Parker House Style Yeast Rolls. And Sister Schubert’s Clover Leaf Style Dinner Rolls are now available in an 8-count, re-sealable bag. You just heat, pull apart and enjoy!
Add Sister Schubert’s rolls to your next weeknight meal and find out for yourself how the buttery taste and aroma of fresh-baked rolls bring a touch of enduring class to the most mundane of everyday meals.

Winner of Sister Schubert’s Memorable Holiday Moments Contest Sets Goal of Matching $5,000 Donation to North Fulton Community Charities Food Bank
A few weeks ago, I met Heidi Britz, winner of the grand prize in the Sister Schubert’s Memorable Holiday Moments Contest, when I presented her prize on CBS morning show “Better Mornings Atlanta.” You can see the check presentation on our video page.
It was a real pleasure to talk to Heidi about the inspiration behind her heartwarming winning story and learn of her plans to take her mother and sisters in law on her grand prize vacation to the Riu Palace Mexico resort in Riviera Maya, Mexico.
Although Heidi was thrilled to win the vacation, she was just as excited to have a chance to donate $5,000 to North Fulton Community Charities, which operates a food bank and strives to prevent homelessness.
Heidi has been personally involved with this organization, and winning our contest inspired her to do even more. She has set a goal of matching the $5,000 donation by summer.
As you know, feeding the hungry has long been a cause close to my heart. It would be wonderful if some of my fans would support Heidi in her goal. You can find a link to donate on Heidi’s blog.
Again, many thanks to everyone who entered our Memorable Holiday Moments Contest. Your beautiful stories continue to touch my heart.
Until next time,

Easter Greetings and Recipes from Sister Schubert’s Homemade Rolls
Happy Easter! This is one of my favorite holidays, when family and friends gather together to create memories of warmth and comfort that last all year round.
The smell and taste of special foods are an important part of my holiday memories. When I was growing up, no Easter dinner was complete without the yeasty aroma and buttery taste of my grandmother Gommey’s homemade yeast rolls. It’s gratifying to know that millions of families across the country now join us in enjoying the pure and simple taste of Sister Schubert’s Homemade Rolls with their holiday and everyday meals.
Nothing gets our gaggle of children and grandchildren going on Easter morning like a breakfast featuring Sister Schubert’s sweet rolls. Our wonderful Cinnamon Rolls are just like the ones Gommey used to make, with the finest cinnamon and butter. It’s been my pleasure to extend the tradition by mixing healthy blueberries with real cream cheese to create Sister Schubert’s Blueberry Rolls and to create Sister Schubert’s Orange Rolls with real orange zest, butter and orange icing.
One of the pleasures of preparing a big Easter dinner with all the trimmings is snacking on leftovers for the next few days. Sister Schubert’s Dinner Yeast Rolls and Parker House Style Yeast Rolls make the perfect base for sandwiches. I’m happy to share two of my family’s favorite recipes here, and you can find more simple yet delicious recipes on the SisterSchuberts.com Web site or in my new book, Cast Your Bread Upon the Waters.

Sister Schubert’s to appear on March 22 “Feel Good Foods” episode of the Food Network’s “Unwrapped”
If you’ve ever wanted to know how we maintain the homemade taste and quality of Sister Schubert’s rolls while baking more than two million rolls each day, then you’ll want to tune in to the “Feel Good Foods” episode of “Unwrapped,” which premieres at 9 p.m. next Monday, March 22 on the Food Network (check your local listing times to see when the show airs in your area).
When the “Unwrapped” team visited our main bakery in Luverne last fall, we told them almost everything there is to know about baking Sister Schubert’s Parker House style yeast rolls.
They interviewed me about how I started Sister Schubert’s based on my grandmother’s heirloom recipe for homemade yeast rolls and took a shot of the original, handwritten recipe that started it all.
We also shared the art and science of creating yeast rolls from scratch, including the importance of using quality ingredients like fresh milk, eggs and butter to preserve the homemade taste, pure and simple, that is the hallmark of Sister Schubert’s Homemade Rolls.
Everyone at Sister Schubert’s is so excited! Many of our wonderful employees were filmed placing every single roll we produce in the pan by hand, and the cameras captured a few scenes of my children and grandchildren devouring our fresh homemade yeast rolls.
I hope you’ll tune in to see host Marc Summers bite into one of our hot, fresh rolls next Monday!
Until next time,

Sister Schubert To Present Memorable Holiday Moments Prizes on Better Mornings Atlanta
Tomorrow will be an exiting day! I’m traveling to Atlanta to present the grand prizes in the Sister Schubert’s Memorable Holiday Moments contest.
Sometime between 5 and 6 a.m., winner Heidi Britz and I will meet on the set of “Better Mornings Atlanta.” This leading morning show is produced by WGCL-TV, a CBS affiliate owned by contest co-sponsor Meredith Corporation.
On behalf of Sister Schubert’s Homemade Rolls, I will present the fabulous grand prize – a Mexican vacation for four valued at $5,000 – that Heidi won with her beautiful story about her son’s gratitude at Christmas. Heidi and I will then present a $5,000 check to Vonda Malbrough, director of development for North Fulton Community Charities, which operates Heidi’s chosen food bank. We’re also donating 12 cases of Sister Schubert’s Parker House Style Yeast Rolls to this organization, which is dedicated to preventing homelessness.
We’ll also deliver a $1,000 check from Meredith Corporation to Amy Crowel of Share Our Strength, a national organization that works to make sure no kid in America grows up hungry.
I can’t wait to meet Heidi and learn more about the woman who penned such a heartwarming story. It will also be a treat to meet two women dedicated to feeding the hungry – one of the focuses of my work with the Barnes Family Foundation.
If possible, we’ll post a link to the clip here for you to enjoy after the program airs.
Until next time,
